Lakeside and Hanamaki Higashi High School Baseball Exchange

On December 7th, 2019, the first ever sister school baseball exchange took place between Lakeside High school and Hanamaki Higashi High School. A friendship game was played on December 7th between players from the Hot Springs area and Higashi. This video shows the event and the interactions between the two teams. Hanamaki is known throughout Japan for its incredibly successful baseball teams. Sister Cities Urbana, Illinois and Thionville, France Celebrate Anniversary of the Liberation of Thionville

From November 15th to November 17th, 2019, delegates from Urbana, Illinois traveled to Thionville, France to help celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Thionville from Axis occupation during World War II. The delegates from Urbana attended public ceremonies, parades, and laid wreaths at commemorative monuments during their three day visit. There was also a signing of a new Twinning Cities charter between Urbana, Illinois and Thionville, France, which was then followed by a gala dinner at a nearby chateau. The Millennia-Long History of German Sister Cities

The earliest known city partnership in Europe was established in 836 between Paderborn, Germany and Le Mans, France. This partnership initially took the form of an “eternal brotherhood” between the dioceses of the two Catholic bishops. An official city partnership agreement was finally signed in 1967. Other pioneering German partnerships included Kiel, Germany and Sonderburg, Denmark in 1925 and Wiesbaden, Germany and Klagenfurt, Austria in 1930. Schaumburg Meets Schaumburg: A Sister Cities Gathering

Sister Cities programs connect distant populations with one another through various exchanges, delegations, and partnership projects. Last week the Schaumburg-Schaumburg relationship between Illinois and Germany enjoyed ten days together after a German delegation of six visited their U.S. counterparts. The trip coincides with the 35th anniversary of Schaumburg’s oldest Sister City relationship. The Illinois village became Sister Cities with the German county in order to connect U.S. residents with their ancestral history.
